West Coast Convo’s All-WCC Second Team
By Josh Horton
Stacy Davis – Forward – Pepperdine
Davis is the only bench player to be featured on any of our three all-conference teams. While it sounds weird to consider a player that talented and that productive as a sixth man, that is exactly what he is.
On Feb. 1st against Loyola Marymount, coach Marty Wilson elected to start forward Jett Raines and bring Davis off the bench. Part of this was to prevent him from picking up early fouls and the other was to energize the power forward a little bit.
Wilson’s experiment paid off initially, as the Waves won their first two Waves with Davis off the bench. During that stretch, Davis scored in double figures in every single game.
Although he is an undersized power forward, the sky is the limit for Stacy Davis. From last season, Davis improved in every statistical category other than steals. The most noticeable advance was Davis’ long range shooting. In the 2012-2013 season, Davis attempted only one 3-pointer and did not make it. In 2013-2014, Davis hoisted up 49 and connected on 47.1 percent of them.
As alluded to before, the sky is the limit for Davis. His next two years at Pepperdine will be a treat to watch, as well as his overall development as a player.
