After playing with the Dallas Mavericks in the 2015 NBA Summer League Kevin Pangos has decided to take his basketball talents to Spain.  He signed a contract with Herbalife Gran Canaria.  It’s part of the Liga ACB, which is the top league in Spain.

This is very exciting news and Pangos seems to be excited as well.  Here’s what he posted on Twitter.

I think that playing in Spain is a great idea for Pangos.  He had some solid Summer League games.  In his time with the Mavs he 5.3 points per game and 4.7 assists per game.  Playing in Spain will give Pangos an opportunity to refine his skills.  He will be able to play against other professionals and get much better.

Many other Gonzaga players have played in Europe and been successful.  Most recently Elias Harris had a lot of success playing in Germany.  Harris is playing for Brose Baskets and this past season they won with German championship.

I think that a good option for Pangos will be to play in Spain and then come back to the U.S. next summer for the 2016 NBA Summer League.  After playing for a couple years in Spain, Pangos will come back stronger.  He will have a better chance of making an NBA team after getting some experience playing against other professionals.

It has been fun to watch Pangos in college and I’m sure that he will have a long, fruitful basketball career either in the U.S. or internationally.  It will be interesting to continue to follow his career.
