Kevin Pangos Summer League Update
Kevin Pangos continued his NBA Summer League career with the Dallas Mavericks as they faced the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday, July 15 and the D-League Select Team on Thursday, July 16. The Mavs narrowly beat the Lakers by a score of 88-86. Dallas also beat the D-League Select team in a lopsided 104-88 victory.
Pangos had a tough game against the Lakers. He was not able to find any scoring rhythm and finished with only two points on 1/8 shooting. It is easy for players in the Summer League to get fatigued because there are a lot of games in a short period of time and this is the best competition that a lot of these players have faced. I think this was the case for Pangos. He was tired and just couldn’t find his groove. He was still able to contribute to the team without scoring though. He finished with four assists, one rebound, and one steal. In the end the Mavericks win allowed them to advance in the tournament.
In Thursday’s game against the D-League Select team Pangos faced off against another former Zag, Matt Bouldin. Boulder played well in his 21 minutes off the bench. He finished with 13 points, six rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Pangos had another tough shooting day. He finished with only three points on 1/10 shooting. Pangos managed to still have a huge contribution to the team though. He had six rebounds, a game high eight assists, and three steals. His passing was especially nice as he set up a lot of really nice opportunities for others. I think that Pangos has improved court vision, which could help his case for making an NBA roster. This game showed that even when he is not scoring Pangos can still make important contributions to the team.
With this win the Mavericks advance in the tournament and will go on to face the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday, July 18 at 3:00 pm PT.
