David Stockton Wows, but Kings Lose to Warriors
David Stockton is continuing his NBA career with the Sacramento Kings in the 2015 NBA Summer League. In a game against the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday, July 15, Stockton showed his value to an NBA team, but the Kings ultimately lost to the Warriors by a score of 83-67.
Stockton had his best game of the whole Summer League so far. He led the Kings in points and minutes. He had 17 points and played 27 minutes. On top of that he added two rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block. Stockton was all over the court and making his presence felt.
The former Gonzaga point guard’s contribution was huge for proving how much he is worth to an NBA team. This game showed that he is willing to still work hard even when things aren’t going quite right. The Kings had an extremely cold stretch in the third quarter and only scored four points in that quarter. This is bad news for any team. Nonetheless, Stockton was still all over the floor trying to make plays.
Stockton’s improved shooting, especially from behind the three point line, is already making a huge difference. It is unlikely that Stockton will see big minutes in the regular NBA season because of the arrival of Rajon Rondo to Sacramento, but I think that Stockton can provide some quality minutes in these games. His vision is as good as ever and he has made up for his small stature with scrappy, aggressive defense.
This is the final game for pool play for the Kings in Summer League and now will move on to tournament play.
