Kevin Pangos to Join Mavericks for Summer League

It was a disappointing night last Thursday as one of the best players to come out of the WCC did not get drafted.  Recently Spokane reported Darnay Tripp from KREM 2 news reported that Pangos will be playing for the Dallas Mavericks for the upcoming NBA summer league season that beings on July 4.

Here is Tripp’s original tweet with the news:

This is very exciting news for Zags fans as well as for Mavs fans.  The Dallas backcourt has problems as Rajon Rondo will not be returning and it is possible that Monta Ellis will not resign with the team.  The Mavs are getting a heck of a deal for Pangos as he is a great player who is underrated.  They will get him for a great value because of this.

Many believe that Summer League will be perfect for Pangos to showcase his abilities and I tend to agree.  It was disappointing to not hear Pangos’ name called during the draft, but it is very exciting to know that he will still be getting a chance.

Que the Steve Nash comparisons.  Steve Nash was also an underrated, overlooked, undersized, highly skilled, Canadian point guard from a WCC school.  Nash was originally selected by the Phoenix Suns in 1996, but he played for Dallas from 1998-2004.  The Mavericks could be hoping that Pangos is a reincarnation of Nash.

I know that I am looking forward to watching the NBA Summer League games quite a bit more now.  I will definitely be cheering for Pangos and the Mavs.

We will have updates of WCC player action in those games right here at West Coast Convo.
