Saint Mary’s Stellar Shooting Leads to Win Over Pepperdine

Thanks to an impressive shooting display from deep where the Gaels shot 52.9 percent from 3-point range, Saint Mary’s defeated Pepperdine 68-59 on New Year’s Day.

The Gaels only played seven players in the victory, but five or those seven scored in double-digits to help bolster the offense. Senior’s Brad Waldow and Aaron Bright finished the game with 15 points to lead all scorers, while Kerry Carter (14 points), Desmond Simmons (11 points) and Garrett Jackson (11 points) played admirably. Waldow’s eight rebounds led the team and Bright’s five assists were a team-high. Jackson had an all-around nice game with seven rebounds and four assists to go along with his 11 points.

For Pepperdine, Lamond Murray Jr. came off the bench and led the team with 11 points. Jeremy Major had a solid game with 10 points of his own along with a team high four rebounds and four assists. Amadi Udenyi did not record a point but helped Major lead the team in assists with four dimes of his own.

Notes:

As mentioned before, Saint Mary’s only played seven players in today’s victory: Aaron Bright, Kerry Carter, Desmond Simmons, Dane Pineau, Brad Waldow, Emmett Naar and Garrett Jackson. Pineau got the start but he only played 8 minutes while Jackson played 34 and accumulated a plus/minus of +24 while Pineau was the only Gael in the negative with a -14.

Lamond Murray Jr. was the only Wave with a positive plus/minus with a +1. Shawn Olden played a game-high 33 minutes but recorded a -13 plus/minus, the low man for Pepperdine.
