Meet the Teams
San Francisco
The Dons last meeting against Hawaii was at the 2011 College Insider Tournament where USF beat Hawaii in Hawaii. USF is currently shooting 55.2% from the floor and has won 10 of their previous games against Hawaii. Look for forwards Kruize Pinkins and Mark Tollefson to pour in the baskets with the guard rotation of Tim Derksen, Chris Adams and Matt Glover keeping the ball moving for USF.
University of Hawaii
Enjoying alot of momentum after beating Pittsburgh 74-70 November 19, 2014 on the island of Maui, the Rainbows fly to Florida to meet the Dons in the first game for both teams in the Gulf Coast Showcase tournament. A fairly young team, Hawaii returns 2 starters from last season, junior forward Issac Fotu and sophomore guard Garrett Nevels. Missouri transfer Negus Webster-Chan, who started 6 games as a true freshman at Missouri is expected to continue to contribute to Hawaii’s productivity as will Issac Fleming, who poured in 15 points coming off the bench in the Pittsburgh game and the steady play of sophomore forward Mike Thomas.
The most interesting question this early season tournament can answer is how well Big West conference member Hawaii and WCC team USF will fare in this game against each other then what the level of play looks like in their second tournament games against the winner of the Florida Gulf Coast University (Atlantic Sun Conference) and Marist College (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) game.
