Some disappointing news came out on the recruiting front today, as Corey Evans of Hoops Intel reported that Drew Eubanks – a four-star power forward from Reynolds, Ore. – committed to Oregon State over Gonzaga and Portland.

The aforementioned schools were in his final three. Eubanks had official visits planned to the three schools – OSU the upcoming weekend, Portland on Sept. 5th and a visit to Gonzaga in the works – but decided they were not necessary and ended his recruitment early by pledging to Wayne Tinkle and the Beavers.

Eubanks is an athletic forward that emerged as a breakout player this summer while playing AAU ball with his team, NW Express. Playing alongside Washington commit Dejounte Murray, Gonzaga target Matisse Thybulle and other top players in the Pacific Northwest, Eubanks was able to make a name for himself and put his name on the map in the recruiting community.

The 6-foot-10 prospect is also a promising baseball prospect, and will be a pitcher for the Oregon State Baseball Team along with being on the basketball team.

For Oregon State, this is phenomenal news, considering they are already thought of as the favorites for Tres Tinkle and Stephen Thompson Jr. – both of their fathers are on the OSU coaching staff. For Gonzaga and Portland, this is a tough loss.

Gonzaga, who has three scholarships remaining for its 2015 recruiting class, will need to look elsewhere for a big man with Eubanks off the board. The Pilots, who appeared to value Eubanks higher than any other school in the country, will rebound, but the Pilots will always wonder what could have been by adding the local four-star power forward.
