Senior David Carr Suffers Season Ending Injury
By Josh Horton

According to Portland Pilots Head Coach Eric Reveno’s twitter account, senior guard David Carr tore his left ACL earlier this week in on-court summer workouts. The injury will sideline the 6-foot-3 point guard for the entirety of the 2014-2015 season.
After showing determination and toughness recovering from last years torn ACL, SR David Carr tore his other ACL earlier this week. #aintfair

David was having 1 of most impressive off-seasons we have seen. He was being a vocal leader, crushing it in weights and playing very well.

David had finally worked through 1st injury and was making himself a better player through pure grit. I am very proud of him for that.

This is Carr’s second significant knee injury he has sustained at the University of Portland. Carr tore his right ACL midway through the 2012-2013 season after making 17 straight starts for the Pilots.
Carr, a product of Central Catholic High School and a native of Portland, has been a quality reserve and occasional starter throughout his career with the Pilots. In his three seasons playing at the University of Portland, Carr has averaged 3.4 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists. He is not necessarily a stat sheet stuffer, but Carr filled a distinct role on the Pilots team for three full seasons.
As Reveno stated above, this is hearbreaking news for Carr and the University of Portland. The Pilots lose depth at the guard position and Carr loses a chance to play as a senior for his hometown school.
If there is any positive outcome from this news, it will be that sophomore guard Aitor Zubizarreta – a player many are excited about – will have more opportunities to play this season. Otherwise, this is gut-wrenching news for Carr, the Portland Pilots, their fans and basketball lovers in general.
It is unknown whether Carr and the University will pursue a medical redshirt.
