While a majority of the former WCC players on NBA Summer League teams are playing in the Las Vegas Summer League, two former Gonzaga greats are playing in the Orlando Summer League from July 5-11. Kelly Olynyk and the Boston Celtics took on the Miami Heat, while Matt Bouldin and the Orlando Magic took on the Philadelphia 76ers.
Olynyk had a successful outing, scoring 20 points on 8/17 shooting to go along with 8 rebounds and 4 steals. He once again showed the ability to score in a variety of ways: transition, dribble drive, jump shots, and post ups. While Olynyk had a very solid game, he did force a few questionable shots and did commit a few too many turnovers (6). With a guaranteed spot on the Celtics, Olynyk can just go out and play, a luxury not too many other Summer League players have.
While Matt Bouldin is on the Orlando Magic summer league roster, he did not see any game action today for the Magic. This might be beneficial in the long run because he is one of the few players playing in both summer leagues and will want to save his legs. (He will be playing for D-League Select team in the Las Vegas Summer League). Bouldin is coming off a very successful season in the D-League for both Delaware and Fort Wayne, where he helped lead the Fort Wayne Mad Ants to the D-League Championship.
