WCC Recruiting Q & A: Robert Franks

One of the upcoming prospects in the Pacific Northwest is 6-foot-7 power forward Robert Franks from Evergreen High School in Vancouver, Wash.

While most people know Franks for his ridiculous off-balance buzzer beater in a high school game this season (watch here), Franks is garnering a lot of interest from schools on the west coast, including two WCC schools.

Franks, who is a three-star prospect according to Scout.com, is a budding prospect that oozes potential. With a 7-foot wingspan and a solid inside-outside game according to Scout.com, Franks could be a nice future piece for a host of teams.

I touched base with Franks about his recruitment, among other things.

What AAU Team are you playing for?

Northwest Panthers

Do you have any upcoming tournaments that are on your radar?

We have one in July.

You hit a ridiculous buzzer beater shot against Camas this past season that turned into an internet sensation. Can you recount the experience as you caught the full-court pass and put it in the bucket?

I honestly didn’t know it was going to go in. When it went in, I was kind of surprised and shocked but I was happy I made it.

What schools are showing you the most interest right now?

Washington State, Portland, Boise State, Gonzaga and Portland State.

What offers do you currently hold?

Portland and Portland State.

How did your high school season go at Evergreen?

It went pretty well. We should have went further in the playoffs, but we had a pretty good year.

What’s the best player you have had to matchup against this AAU season so far?

Dennis Smith Jr. (5-star point guard from Fayetteville, NC)

Do you have any upcoming visits planned?

I’m visiting Washington State for a camp soon.

Do you see anything materializing with the new coaching staff at Washington State are do you see an offer coming?

I like the coaching staff. I think an offer will come soon.

I know Portland is one of your only offers right now. Can you touch on your recruiting with them; which coaches are talking to you and how often?

Coach [Eric] Jackson is talking to me about five times out of the week. He wants me to come to campus every time I’m free.

Would it interest you to go to a school that close so your friends and family can see you play?

It would, but at the same time I want to go somewhere PAC-12.

What about Gonzaga? What coaches are talking to you and how often are they talking to you?

Coach [Brian] Michaelson from Gonzaga is talking to me about once a week or once a month.

A fun question to wrap things up: if you had to compare yourself to an NBA player who would it be and why?

I would say Kevin Love. Because we both have an outside shot, we can both post up, and we both can dribble as bigs.
