#3 – Sweeping St. Mary’s

I think I can speak for most BYU fans when I say that I thought the Cougars would enter the West Coast Conference and duke it out with Gonzaga for supremacy. The Mountain West had been a highly competitive league, and the Cougars seemed to come out on top more often than not. How hard could the WCC be? Well, hard enough.

In two seasons of conference play, St. Mary’s held a 4-0 record over the Cougars, with the Dellave-dagger fresh on the mind of every BYU fan that ever existed. Who knew if this season was going to be different? The burning image of Delly’s buzzer beater may well have made everyone a skeptic.

This season was different. And it was joyous. And I would be lying if I said I derived no joy out of watching Brad Waldow chuck his vampire mouth guard across the Marriott Center floor. As satisfying as the dominant home win was, the gritty road win was just as sweet.
