Gary Bell Jr. may play the shooting guard position, but he is far from just a scorer. He is an all-around player for the Bulldogs, who can handle the ball and play stifling defense, along with scoring as well. Bell has been known for all of this ever since he appeared at Gonzaga three seasons ago.
This season was no different for the Kent, Wash. native, but Bell’s season was temporarily derailed due to broken hand. Bell sat out six games after injuring it against Santa Clara. For the most part, the Bulldogs were fine without Bell’s presence, but the Bulldogs certainly could have used him in an upset loss to Portland.
Statistically, Bell Jr. ended the season with 11.0 points per game, 2.9 rebounds per game and 1.7 assists per game. The junior shot an impressive 42.7 percent from beyond the arc, along with shooting 47.6 percent from the field.
Gonzaga will return a pair three-year starters in Bell and Kevin Pangos next season. While Pangos gets a lot of credit at times, don’t make any mistake; Bell Jr. is just as important to the Bulldogs.
