With an automatic berth already locked up, the Gonzaga Bulldogs fans, coaches and players all did not have to sweat it out on selection Sunday. However, seeding was on the line for the Bulldogs.
The selection committee put the Zags as an eight seed in the west region. Many fans were hopeful of a seven seed, but the committee apparently did not think that was fitting based on the Bulldogs resume this season.
The Bulldogs will take on Oklahoma State in the first round, who were in a bit of a slump in the middle of conference play – the Marcus Smart suspension put gasoline of the fire- but . If the Bulldogs prevail over the Cowboys, they will likely take on Arizona, who takes on one seed and takes on Weber State in its first matchup. The Bulldogs first matchup with be held in San Diego, Calif. in the Viejas Arena, the home court of the San Diego State Aztecs. The top four seeds in the Bulldogs region are the Wildcats, Wisconsin (two seed), Creighton (three seed) and San Diego State (four seed).
Gonzaga’s draw this season is fairly tough, and with the Bulldogs taking on a vastly talented Oklahoma State team in the first round and an virtually inevitable against the Pac-12 regular season champions the Arizona Wildcats. The Zags have a tough road ahead of them.
