Place in Conf. Standings: 7
This past week: W vs. Portland 61-59, W vs. Gonzaga 69-66
After coming out unsuccessful in 11 straight outings, the San Diego Toreros were able to knock off Gonzaga for the first time since the final of the WCC tournament in 2007.
The Toreros faithful backcourt of Johnny Dee and Christopher Anderson made huge plays down the stretch to beat the Zags. Dee led the Toreros with 16 points and Christopher Anderson dished out seven assists.
The Toreros take on their travel partner BYU at home on Saturday to close out the season. A win could potentially put USD in the highly coveted top six of the regular season standings, where the Toreros would get a first round by in the WCC tournament. However, the Toreros need Portland to lose their final games against Pacific and Saint Mary’s in order to claim a spot in Saturday’s slate of games in Las Vegas.
