San Francisco entered the season hoping to crack the top three in the WCC. With four games left in the regular season, they are still in control of their own top three destiny. Standing in their way is a Bay Area foe, Saint Mary’s College.
With the Gonzaga and Brigham Young season-series complete with a 0-4 record, Thursday immediately becomes USF’s biggest game of the year as the Gaels travel to War Memorial Gym. A win against SMC will give the Dons a lead over the Gaels in the standings and potentially a lock in a tie breaker situation (SMC lost to San Diego earlier this season). After the Dons face off against the Gaels, they host the Tigers and travel to the Southern California to finish the season at Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount.
Additionally, with the win over Santa Clara, San Francisco at the very least solidified a top 7 finish in the WCC. With the next conference win, USF ensures a bye in the opening round of the conference tournament. Dons fans can rest easy knowing the Green & Gold will play on Saturday in Vegas.
One final note: Saturday night versus Pacific marks Senior Night for the Green & Gold. Cole Dickerson is the only active member of the Dons that will be graduating later this semester. It will be interesting to see if Cody Doolin returns to participate in the pre-game festivities on Saturday.
