The Lions escaped from UC Riverside with a 4-point victory and got smacked by a strong Pittsburgh team this week, enough to keep the Lions in the 6th spot in our power rankings.

A lot of the Lions returning players have shown improvements this season and their newcomers have shown a great deal of promise. Although these two parties have not entirely fused together quite yet, LMU looks like a completely different squad this season. An example of an improving player is senior point guard Anthony Ireland. Ireland has cut down on his turnovers and brought up his assists this season. His assist-to-turnover ratio has gone up from 1.1 to 1 to 2.2 to 1, a testament to his positive progression as a point guard. The Lions are relying on Ireland as less of a scorer and more of a distributor this season, and he has answered the call.

The Lions play only once this week. LMU takes on Valparaiso on the road.
