The Gaels have taken care of business in this young season. Saint Mary’s remains the only undefeated team in the WCC with its win versus Eastern Washington on Sunday night.

What has kept SMC out of the top spot in the power rankings is its lack of quality opponents and road games. The Gaels best wins have come against Louisiana Tech and Drake, which have not necessarily impressed our voters. Saint Mary’s has yet to play a game at anywhere other than McKeon Pavilion, which has also hurt its standing with our voters.

Despite the weak scheduling, junior center Brad Waldow is having a spectacular season so far. The Northern California product has averaged 17.7 points and 7.0 rebounds, and will make a strong case for WCC player of the year.

A matchup against Boise State looms for the Gaels, a game that is projected to be their toughest test in the non-conference slate.
