The University of San Francisco released an announcement regarding Cody Doolin’s future at the Hilltop. The press release explains that the Dons senior will forego the remainder of the Dons basketball season.

Doolin’s last game in a Dons uniform was at War Memorial Gym on November 18th as the Dons lost to the Idaho State Begals. On November 15th, he scored a career high 33 points in a loss to Nevada. Cody also falls 25 games short of Angelo Caloiaro’s all-time games played mark of 128 games – a feat he was expected to surpass late in the 2013-2014 season.

Doolin is scheduled to receive his degree from USF in finance this upcoming spring.

Moving forward, Tim Derksen will probably receive the majority of the starts in Doolin’s absence. As Dons fans witnessed during the Montana and Oregon games, Corey Hilliard, Chris Adams and Avry Holmes will also find more minutes on the floor. Among these young men, USF will need to find a vocal leader on the floor willing to lead the Dons offense. Doolin is leaving some unfill-able shoes behind. Hopefully, someone can get close.

The Dons open up against the Sonoma State Seawolves Wednesday Night in the opening game of the 2013 Golden Gate Challenge hosted by the University of San Francisco.
