Santa Clara was handed its first loss of the season by Cal State Fullerton, who beat the Broncos by a score of 86 to 73.
Brandon Clark and Jared Brownridge showed some signs of life in a fairly underwhelming outing from the Broncos. The junior guard had 23 points and 6 rebounds in the Broncos loss.
Alex Harris was a thorn in Santa Clara’s side in this contest. The Cal State Fullerton sophomore guard had 19 points and 4 assists. Michael Williams chipped in 15 as well.
Cal State Fullerton shot very well today, from the field and from behind the arc, shooting 54 percent overall and 50 percent from three. Santa Clara was letting the Titans hit all of their spots, and subsequently making the Broncos pay.
This is a disappointing loss for Kerry Keating and the Bronco’s, as well as the entire conference based on how the WCC has been playing as of late. The Titans were projected to finish second to last in the Big West, a weaker conference compared to the WCC. This was a game that Santa Clara was supposed to win, and the Broncos simply did not take care of business.
Although freshman Jared Brownridge has shined early on this season, this game was an indicator that the Broncos need senior point guard Evan Roquemore back. He has been out with a back injury.
