Pepperdine picked up a victory over Central Michigan tonight to elevate the Waves to 3-0, something they have not done since the 1998-1999 season.
Stacy Davis has been phenomenal this season, and that trend continued during this game. Davis scored 24 points on 10-14 shooting, including 2-2 from three-point land.
Senior forward and UCLA transfer Brendan Lane led the Waves in rebounding with 10. He also had 15 points to record a double-double, 4 assists, and an astounding 5 blocks.
Central Michigan was led by guard Chris Fowler, who put up 23 points. Austin Keel and Blake Hibbits chipped in 13 and 12 points respectively.
Although Central Michigan is not the greatest of opponents (picked to finish 5th place in the MAC West division), it was a convincing victory for the Waves. Pepperdine was a consensus pick to finish at the bottom of the conference, and with the way the Waves are playing right now, they could prove a lot of pundits wrong.
The front court combination of Stacy Davis and Brendan Lane has been fantastic so far. Davis’ stellar performance to open the season was expected to a certain extent, but many people did not expect Lane to play as well as he has. If Lane and Davis keep playing the way they have, Pepperdine could possibly have the best front-court in the WCC.
