The LMU Lions slid past Grand Canyon University tonight in dramatic fashion. The Lions beat the Antelopes by a final score of 78-75, getting Grand Canyon’s absolute best shot.
The Lions were led by Anthony Ireland, who scored 14 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, and dished out a team high 3 assists. Ben Dickinson had 12 points for the Lions, and Ayodeji Egbeyemi and freshman Gabe Levin chipped in 11 points apiece.
Levin led the charge on the boards with 9 rebounds. He was one more rebound away from recording a double-double.
On the Grand Canyon side of things, the ‘Lopes were led by senior forward Killian Larson who had 18 points and 9 rebounds. New Mexico transfer Demetrius Walker had 17 points as well.
The three freshman – Gabe Levin, Nino Jackson, and Evan Payne – looked solid in this contest, especially in the 1st half. They made some freshman like plays, but they also showcased their athleticism and skill. Gabe Levin is the most polished out the three, but Jackson is the most explosive.
Ben Dickinson will be an interesting player this season for the Lions. He can convert in the post, as well as contribute on the defense end of things. When Goodwin Okinji comes back later in the season, this LMU front-court could be much better than expected.
