G- Matt Carlino (BYU)

By Andrew Perkins

Carlino has all the tools to crack the first team.  He’s a speedster off the bounce.  He has ample passing skills.  He’s got an oh so pretty left-handed jumper.  BYU needs a second scorer behind Tyler Haws, and Carlino will most likely be that scorer.  The qualifier “most likely” applies because of Carlino’s tendency to attempt high risk/high reward plays.  He’s a fan of the flashy pass and the heat check.  When they work out, they’re beautiful.  Unfortunately, BYU fans have seen enough of them not work out.  Carlino’s assists may be down because of the return of guard Kyle Collinsworth, but his scoring will most definitely be up.  And he can always be counted on to register a healthy amount of steals.  If Carlino limits the amount of risky plays he forces, he’ll find himself on a higher list when the postseason ballots roll around.
