5. San Diego
Record Last Season: 16-18 (7-9)
Key Loses: Ken Rancifer, Chris Manresa
Key Returners: Johnny Dee, Christopher Anderson, Jito Kok, Dennis Kramer
Key Additions: Brett Bailey, Duda Sandaze.
There is a ton of hype coming out of San Diego this season, and to an extent it is justified. The Torero’s combine a great deal of front-court talent with an experienced back court, and look poised for a promising season. Many fans even think that Torero’s can finish in the top 3 of the WCC. Unfortunately for the Torero faithful, we have them at 5.
The strength of this team is there backcourt. Dee and Anderson have been playing together for quite some time and have developed great chemistry as a result. Dee and Anderson will be keyed on heavily by opposing defenses. North Idaho College transfer Chris Sarbaugh and Duda Sandaze are the primary players behind these two. Senior captain Mike Davis broke his hand in September, and will not be back until mid-December. When he returns, he will could be a potential starter in a three-guard lineup for the Torero’s.
In the front court, Dennis Kramer and Jito Kok will be the main factors. Kok is stellar shot-blocker and Kramer can contribute scoring. Behind Kok and Kramer is Cal State Northridge transfer Thomas Jacobs and Simi Fajemisin.
On the wing, freshman Brett Bailey got the start at the small forward position. Bailey is a great shooter and can stretch out the defense on the wing.
