San Diego defeated Cal State Monterey Bay in an exhibition game by a score of 90-81 on Saturday night.

The Torero’s were led Johnny Dee, who scored 28 points off 6-14 shooting. It is apparent from tonights stats that the Torero’s offense will run through Dee this season. Forward Duda Sandaze was second with 16 points.

Point guard Christopher Anderson led the Torero’s in rebounding with 9, a statistic that really pops up the stat-sheet. Jito Kok had 8, and also contributed 3 blocks in 19 minutes of action.

Like usual, Anderson was the Torero’s leading assist man with 7.

The Otters had a balanced scoring attack, with guard Ryan Nitz leading the charge with 14. Isaiah Smith and Tim Darkwas led the rebound charge with 6 apiece.

True freshman Brett Bailey got the start at the small forward position, alongside Anderson, Dee, Kok, and Dennis Kramer. Bailey only had 3 points and an assist in 29 minutes of action. It will be interesting if Grier utilizes Bailey at that spot the rest of the season.

San Diego will officially open up its season against South Dakota State in the USD Classic. The game will take place on November 8th.
