The Pacific Tigers, who will play its first season in the West Coast Conference since 1971, have landed a bevy of 2014 prospects in which will make their transition to the WCC smooth and untroubled. This morning, his coach Ryan Silver announced that DJ Ursery, a 6-3 small forward from Crespi Carmelite High School in Encino, Calf., committed to Pacific, making him the Tigers fourth 2014 commit.
Ursery held offers from two WCC schools: Pacific and Pepperdine. Recently appointed head coach Ron Verlin earned a verbal from Ursery, beating out WCC adversary Pepperdine, UTEP, Cal State Fullerton, Weber State, Utah State, and Cal State Northridge.
Although Ursery is a little undersized for the small forward position in both height and overall size, his upside is undeniable and has the potential to blossom in a conference like the WCC. According to his ESPN scouting report, he play’s extremely hard and is a fundamentally sound player. He is a decent athlete and has a great deal of length to go along with it.
Pacific just keeps on adding quality players to its 2014 recruiting class, which will help repress some of the bleeding that will inevitably will come when seven seniors graduate at the end of this season. It will be interesting to see how the staff utilizes both 2014 commits Kaleb Warner and Ursery in the future. Both players are regarded as two underrated wings on the west coast, and seeing how immediate playing time shakes out for both players will be something to watch for.
