On August 1st, 2012, a 6’6” small forward from Lake Oswego, Oregon committed to Saint Mary’s College. Hermanson played his high school basketball at Lake Oswego High School, where he was a highly decorated player. Saint Mary’s made Hermanson a priority for its 2013 recruiting class, and it came into fruition when Hermanson pledged his allegiance to the Gaels last summer. Here is a closer look at Saint Mary’s newcomer Calvin Hermanson.

Senior Year at Lake Oswego:

As I alluded to before, Hermanson has a great deal of accolades under his belt. He was named the 6A player of the year back to back years (junior and senior), as well as a two-time Gatorade State Player of the Year. He was named Three Rivers league player of the year twice and was named to the 6A all-tournament team two times. He averaged 21.2 points as a senior and a whopping 23.0 points during his junior season. In the 2013 Northwest Shootout, which pitted the best high school players in the state of Washington against Oregon, Hermanson dropped 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds en route to a 113-111 victory for team Oregon. The Lake Oswego product was named the MVP of the Northwest Shootout for his performance. This past year, Hermanson broke the school record for most points in a game (previously held by Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love). In a game against Mark Morris high school (Longview, WA), Hermanson scored 52 points (20 of 27 from the floor), breaking Love’s previous record of 50.

Impact this season:

Hermanson can score at an extremely high level, which is a skill that will certainly translate to the WCC. However, the most impressive part about Hermanson is not how he can score buckets of points, it’s the many different ways he can put up points. He can shoot, he can score off the dribble, he can muscle out points under the basket; Hermanson has the complete offensive arsenal. Although he needs to sure up some other areas of his game, Hermanson will make a significant impact to the point column in the stat sheet, assuming he does not redshirt.
