WCC in the Summer League: Olynyk Continues to Impress
By Josh Horton
The Boston Celtics might have fallen just short of defeating the Houston Rockets, but that doesn’t change the fact that former Gonzaga Bulldog Kelly Olynyk had another phenomenal showing in the Orlando summer league. The Celtics lost by a score of 85-78, but Olynyk led all scorers with 19 points, and led the C’s with 10 rebounds.
Olynyk showed off his advanced offensive skill set today, scoring in a myriad of different ways. He was particularly good in this contest when finishing through contact. Despite getting hacked and wacked in the lane, he was able to still get a good looks at the basket in which he ultimately scored. Olynyk has been better than expected in terms of rebounding, and he showed that today with his personal Orlando Summer Leauge high of 10. This is something that K.O. needed to work on when he came out of Gonzaga and by the looks of it, he has.
Despite all the success, Olynyk had a miserable day shooting behind the arc. The big man made zero out of the five shots that he hucked up from beyond the three-point line, which included some shots that missed badly. Olynyk is trying to show the NBA that he can stretch out the defense by adding a consistent three ball to his arsenal, but by the looks of it, he needs to put more hours in the gym to improve in this aspect.
