Four Gaels selected in MLB Draft

Saint Mary’s baseball players Ben Griset (RHP), Brenden Kalfus (OF), Jordan Mills (LHP), and Cole Norton (OF) were selected this past weekend in the 2013 MLB Draft.
Junior Ben Griset was picked in the 13th round by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, The left- handed pitcher finished his junior season with a 4-4 record for the Gaels with a 3.62 ERA. In 13 starts he threw two shutouts.
Outfielder Brenden Kalfus was chosen in the 23rd round by the Toronto Blue Jays. The senior earned first-team All-WCC after batting .381, which included an NCAA best 36-game hitting streak. He had 22 multi-hit games in 2013 season for the Gaels.
6’5” pitcher Jordan Mills was selected in the 28th round by the Houston Astros. He also earned West Coast Conference First-Team honors after leading Saint Mary’s with a 2.47 ERA. In 14 starts, he went 4-4 and had 78 strikeouts in 83.2 innings thrown.
Cole Norton was picked in the 39th round by the Colorado Rockies. The outfielder hit 2.92 in WCC play during his senior season.
As a team, the Gaels struggled as they finished 21-34 overall and ended the season on a four-game loosing streak. Saint Mary’s will lose a lot of talent in this years graduating class, but do return unexperienced underclassmen for 2014.
Last season, Gael pitcher Martin Agosta was drafted by the San Francisco Giants and now plays for the Augusta Green Jackets and third-baseman Patrick Wisdom was picked No. 52 overall by the Saint Louis Cardinals and is now playing for the Class A Peoria Chiefs.
