Over the weekend, former Cal-State Northridge Matador forward Brandon Perry will be taking his talents to Southern California and play for the San Diego Torero’s for the duration of his career. Billy Grier told the San Diego Union Tribune that Perry seeked a transfer after Cal-State Northridge failed to renew the contract of former coach Bobby Braswell.

Perry was a formidable player as a freshman, averaging 6.3 points and 3.5 rebounds. He is an absolute bruiser down low, and uses his 275 pound frame to physically dominate opposing players on the block. That physical presence will be an interesting fit for the WCC.

The incoming sophomore will most likely need to sit out a year because of the NCAA transfer rules. After his transfer season, Perry will have three years of eligibility left to play for the Torero’s. The University of San Diego seems like a decent fit for Perry, considering the program has been on the down swing the last few seasons. Perry is the kind of player that could be a building block for the future, and that could be an essential piece for years to come.  It isn’t clear whether he could be an all-conference type player for the Torero’s, but he certainly will provide a spark for this team in  future years.
