In an elimination game that pitted the Oregon Ducks against the San Francisco Dons, the Ducks took down the Dons by a score of 6-1. The Dons fielders struggled with errors, and the pitchers struggled with keeping the ball in the ballpark, two things that greatly contributed to the loss for the Dons.

Oregon Outfielder Tyler Baumgartner was an assassin at the dish for the Ducks in the this contest, going three for five with two RBI’s. He hit an absolute bomb in the fifth inning that hit the roof of the batting practice facility to extend the Oregon lead to 3-1. Baumgartner’s was phenomenal at the plate, and the Don’s pitching staff just could not figure him out throughout the game.

On the brighter side of things, San Francisco center fielder Justin Maffei played very well in this elimination game. He hit a lead off home run in the bottom of the first inning to score the Don’s only run of the game. He ended up finishing with 2 hits in three at bats and recorded USF’s lone RBI.

The Dons batting order was worked from top to bottom by University of Oregon pitcher Cole Irwin. Irwin pitched a complete game, and only gave up 1 run on 6 hits. All of Irwins pitches seemed to be working, and the Dons simply could not produce any offense with him on the mound.

The Don’s end there season with an overall record of 35-24 after losing there second game in the Eugene regional. The Dons appear to have a bright future, considering only five seniors are graduating. Coach Nino Giarratano has done a great job with this ball club and the program is in a great spot with him at the helm. Congratulation to San Francisco for a great season, and representing the WCC well in there regional.
