Brandon Davies had a fantastic weekend at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament this weekend. The 6’9” power forward averaged 20.7 points and 9.3 rebounds, 3 assists to help the K&D Rounds Landscaping team come out as winners. Davies was named to the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament All-Tournament team, as well as being named as the MVP of the tournament.
Davies was by far the most efficient player in the tournament. His field goal percentage throughout the tournament was .676, which led the entire field of players in the PIT. He was second in the tournament in points, 5th in rebounds, and 19th in assists. In the championship game, Davies put up 23 points and snagged 8 rebounds in an 87-78 victory over the Roger Brown’s Restaurant team.
This stellar performance could have teams looking even harder at Davies when June 27th comes around. His ability to stretch the floor and play in the high post would be an asset to any NBA team. He has shown the ability to rebound and distribute the basketball at an extremely high level throughout his time at BYU. He might not be athletic as some of the other power forwards entering the NBA draft, however, his creativity in the post is what could set him apart from some of these other players.
Kevin Foster from Santa Clara competed in the PIT as well this weekend. Although his team was not as successful as Davies team, Foster had a great deal of success throughout the weekend. He averaged 11.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists. Foster’s draft status still seems pretty bleak at this point, but his ability to score with relative ease will give him a great chance of at least being invited to try out for an NBA roster.
