Meet the JuCo Transfers: Pacific’s Sami Eleraky
By Josh Horton
When it’s all said and done, Sami Eleraky could be one of the biggest steals in the Pacific Tigers jam-packed 2014 recruiting class.
Eleraky was originally a high-major talent, as he was committed to the Cal Bears coming out of high school. Something went awry in the admittance process for the Aalborg, Denmark native, and Eleraky ended up landing at Barton Community College in Great Bend, Kan. Eleraky eventually redshirted his first season at Barton, and transferred to the renowned City College of San Francisco, where he later garnered interest Pacific and committed to Ron Verlin and the Tigers.
Eleraky will have three seasons of eligibility for the Tigers.
At City College of San Francisco
While Eleraky has boatloads of potential, his statistics at the City College of San Francisco indicate that he is still a work in progress.
Eleraky averaged 6.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in the 2013-2014 season, playing apart in the Rams 29-2 regular season finish and advancement to the state semifinals.
The Dutch big man started 65.6 percent of the games he appeared in at CCSF.
Impact at Pacific
At 6-foot-11, Eleraky has the ability to replace Khalil Kelley as the team’s defensive enforcer in the paint, with more versatility on both ends of the floor.
If Eleraky develops the way the Pacific coaching staff’s expect, he could be a star and one of the best big men to play at Pacific since – dare I say it? – Michael Olowakandi. That’s a pretty lofty ceiling for Eleraky and Pacific fans should be excited as his upside.
