Prepping for the NBA Draft: WCC Style

Welcome to your home for the NBA draft at WestCoastConvo.com.

Many WCC players are attempting to sneak in the latter half of the second round and achieve their dreams at making it in the NBA. Who knows, maybe Sam Dower, David Stockton, Stephen Holt, Anthony Ireland or Brendan Lane could be the next Patty Mills and polarize the nation with sensational play in the NBA finals, despite being a late-round draft pick.

Anyways, make sure you read up on the prospects at the following links:

Sam Dower: Draft Profile

Stephen Holt: Draft Profile

Anthony Ireland: Draft Profile, Anthony Ireland, Despite Challenges, Embracing Draft Process

Brendan Lane: Draft Profile

David Stockton: Draft Profile

For reference here is a list of teams each player has worked out with as well.

Dower: Celtics, Wizards, Lakers, Clippers, Jazz, Raptors

Holt: Bulls, Jazz, Warriors, Kings, Cavaliers

Ireland: Lakers, Clippers

Lane: Clippers, Lakers, Warriors, Kings

Stockton: Jazz, Suns

If any of the aforementioned player’s do not get drafted, there is a possibility they could be signed as undrafted free agents or be added to the summer league teams of the organizations above.

Just for fun, I will use my perspectives as WCC writer and try my hand at assembling a mock draft. It is featured below:

1Andrew Wiggins (Small Forward)Cleveland Cavaliers Kansas Wiggins has the highest ceiling and the Cavs need to nail this pick.
2Jabari Parker (Small Forward)Milwaukee BucksDukeNo brainer. Best player available, no question.
3Joel Embiid (Center)Philadelphia 76ersKansas Although I think the Sixers eventually deal this pick, Embiid is their guy at No. 3, despite all the injury questions.
4Dante Exum (Point Guard)Orlando Magic N/AThe Magic need an upgrade at the point guard position, and selecting Exum could allow Victor Oladipo to play off the ball more.
5Noah Vonleh (Power Forward) Utah JazzIndiana Best player available on the board and the Utah Jazz will snag him up.
6Aaron Gordon (Power Forward)Boston Celtics ArizonaA very good all-around player that would fit in very well in Boston with Head Coach Brad Stevens
7Julius Randle (Power Forward)Los Angeles Lakers KentuckyThe run on Power Forwards continues. Randle to the Lakers seems inevitable in this situation
8Marcus Smart (Point Guard)Sacramento KingsOklahoma StateThe Kings could use an upgrade at point guard and Marcus Smart is the best available in that regard
9James Young (Small Forward) Charlotte Hornets KentuckyThe Hornets do not have a lot of shooters at their disposal on the wing currently. Selecting Young would remedy that.
10Nik Stauskas Philadelphia 76ers Michigan The Sixers could use another shooting guard, and Stauskus fits the bill entirely.

If you have any questions, comments, concerns, etc. with my mock draft, don’t hesitate to comment or tweet at me (@westcoastconvo) to chat.

If any updates happen throughout the day, they will be posted on here.
