First Half Reaction

Pilots lead by 8 at the half and they have been playing well. To be honest they really should be up by 12 to 15, but that’s just nitpicking at this point. Portland is shooting well and making sure they take solid shots. The “home” crowd is making a difference. In the second half, Portland needs to come out to a fast start. Portland has been in similar situation plenty of times over the past couple of years, but they always seem to lose it down the stretch. Portland can’t afford a 4 or 5-minute drought. They need to continue to score, while protecting the three-point line.

Also, I’m glad that to see the familiar WCC refs. There were a few HORENDOUS calls, most notably the whistle that disallowed the Pangos three for Gonzaga.

About 6 minutes left

Just a quick reaction with 6 minutes left. Pressley is really showing up tonight. This kid has a fantastic game. Always making smart decisions and is a calming presence. And how about that three by Sharp doing his best Stohl impression.

17 point lead, they need to continue taking care of the ball, defending the 3, and rebounding.

3:39 left

At this point it comes down to Portland taking care of the ball. Can they get the ball across half court and make free throws.

Final

This was a big win. I personally have been following the Pilots since 2006, which isn’t that long in context, but in that time, we’ve gotten close, but never pulled it out. This is a big for the Program; This is big for Reveno; This is big for Spokane native Ryan Nicholas; This is big for Pilot Nation. Who knows, I may even where my Portland jersey to work tomorrow.

MVP of the game has to be Bryce Pressley. 16 Points on 5-6 shooting with 9 assists and 0 turnovers. This kid is fantastic. He is versatile and just always is making a play. Fantastic.
