The Australian connection is very alive and well for Saint Mary’s as they have announced the commitment of 6’11”, 255 pound center Jock Landale for 2014. He adds international experience as he was a member of the Australian U19 National Team that played in China this past summer at the Four Nations Tournament.

The Melbourne native will be the 14th Aussie to come to Saint Mary’s and will join current freshman Emmett Naar and Dane Pineau.

Lockdale is described as a true five that has a good ability to score all around the basket up to a short jump shot. He will be a great asset to Saint Mary’s as they will look to replace current senior Australian Center Matt Hodgeson next year.

The Gaels also signed 6’10” forward Evan Fitzner from San Diego who gave a verbal commitment to Saint Mary’s about a month ago. Fitzner was heavily recruited coming from Francis Parker School, where he held over 20 offers, which included half the Pac-12.

Fitzner is described as one of the best shooting big man on the west coast and will make a big impact right away next season at the stretch-four position.

The Gaels are still looking at a couple of point guards to add to this recruiting class including Indian Hills CC guard Lester Medford who has Saint Mary’s listed as “High” on his choices but is also receiving interest from Baylor and Iowa State.
