Senior starters Kevin Foster, Marc Trasolini,  Raymond Cowels III…. all gone. The upcoming Santa Clara freshman class is crucial for the future success of the program. Jarvis Pugh is one of those freshman that will be looked upon to carry on the Santa Clara program. The 6-6 wing from Plano East High School in Murphy, Texas is highlighted in this installment of Meet the Newbies.

At Plano East High School

Pugh was an unranked recruit that committed to Santa Clara fairly early in the recruiting process (October 2012). At Plano East High School, Pugh averaged 11.2 points and 5.0 rebounds en route to a 26-4 (10-0 conference) season and a state regional semifinal playoff appearance. Pugh was named to the all-district team for his play during his senior season.

Impact at Santa Clara

Pugh is regarded as a stingy defender, and could make an immediate impact this season because of that. Defense is something that is very tough to teach, and if Pugh can keep up on the defense end of the floor there will be a spot for him in the rotation. Pugh is also versatile and can play the 2 and the 3, which also works into his favor. There are a lot of wings on the Santa Clara roster, but If Pugh shows that it he is ready for division I basketball, playing time will be available for him.
