Gaels Hire New Aussie Assistant

The Saint Mary’s- Australian pipeline recieved a much needed boost when the Gaels recently announced the hiring of Marty Clarke, an Australian native with a lot of international experience coaching. He will be involved in recruiting practice and game preparation, and player development.

The last three seasons, Clarke was the head coach of the Adelaide 36ers in the Australian National Basketball League and has spent the past four years with the Australian National Team as an assistant coach, including in the 2012 Summer Olympics.

In the past, Clarke has worked with Australian players such as Andrew Bogut and former Saint Mary’s players Patrick Mills and Matthew Dellavedova. He has also previously worked with current Australian Gaels Jorden Page and Matthew Hodgeson.

He played in the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in his youth, the same place where the Saint Mary’s- Australian pipeline began.

This hire gives the Saint Mary’s-Asutralian pipeline a huge boost as the Gaels have been targeting many Australian recruits in the upcoming years, including highly recruited Dante Exum,

He joins Adam Caporn as the two Australian assistant on the staff, which also currently includes three Australian players.
