Welcome to the NBA big fella. In the inaugural game of the 2013 summer league season, Kelly Olynyk and the Boston Celtics fell to the Orlando Magic by a score of 95-88. His team might have lost, but Olynyk proved why he was a first round pick in his first ever NBA action. The former Bulldog led all scorers with 25 points, and was second on the Celtics with 7 rebounds. Olynyk was 9-12 from the field and 2-4 from beyond the arc in this contest. KO got the start at the power forward alongside former Syracuse center Fab Melo. It is speculated that Olynyk and Melo could combine to form the Celtics backcourt for years to come, so it was intriguing to see them play together today.

Overall, it was a successful first outing for Olynyk. He showed his versatility and how creative he is on the offensive end. However, there were moments in this game where Olynyk looked completely overwhelmed by the physicality of the opposing big men, particularly Romero Osby from Oklahoma. Ultimately Olynyk made some adjustments and the game went a lot smoother for the big man, in the latter stages of the game.

The 9 of 12 shooting should be a stat that Gonzaga fans are very familiar with. Olynyk showed his efficiency on the offensive end and took only smart shots. He appears to have a bright future as an offensive player in the NBA.

Next Game: Kelly Olynyk and the Celtics will be taking on the Detroit Pistons tomorrow. The game can be viewed on NBA TV at 12 PM PST.
