Former SMU forward Uche Ofoegbu will transfer to the University of San Francisco next season. Max Ivany from D1 Nation broke the news on twitter yesterday.
Ofoegbu logged minutes in 27 games last season for the Mustangs, although he only averaged 7.8 minutes per game in his freshman campaign at SMU. Additionally, he averaged 0.6 points, 1.5 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 0.2 steals, and 0.1 blocks per game.
Ofoegbu is transferring along with Jordan Dickerson and Blaise Mbargorba, all of which were freshman reserves last season. There intentions for transferring are relatively unknown, but one must think they are leaving in search of more playing time, especially with the stellar recruiting class they have coming in that features five star prospect Keith Frazier.
San Francisco is starting to become a revolving door for transfers, and landing Ofoegbu is a testament to that. Joe Edmonds, Frank Rogers, and De’End Parker all left the team this offseason, nothing out of the ordinary for USF, considering the mass amounts of transfers they have had the past few seasons.
Ofeogbu would likely function as a role player on this San Francisco team going forward. He doesn’t possess the greatest scoring ability but he is a solid rebounder (he averaged 1.5 rebounds in only an average 7.8 minutes of action per game). He will obviously have to sit next season out, but that off year could be spent sharpening his craft and becoming a more refined offensive player.
